Jan is a Czech citizen who was detained during a tourist trip in Venezuela on September 5, 2024.

According to available information, he did not commit any crime. Nevertheless, he has been held for a long time in harsh prison conditions.

His family, friends, and the public are calling for his immediate release and humane treatment in accordance with international law.

Czech and EU diplomacy are working to resolve the case. Jan’s case has also drawn the attention of organizations such as the CASLA Institute, IACHR, ICRC (International Red Cross), the UN, Amnesty International, Foro Penal and others.

Unfortunately, so far there has been no possibility of consular contact or contact with a lawyer or family (except for two short phone calls).
