Jan is a Czech citizen who was detained during a tourist trip to Venezuela on September 5, 2024.

According to available information, he committed no criminal offense. Nevertheless, he is held long-term in harsh prison conditions.

Family, friends and the public demand his immediate release and humane treatment in accordance with international law.

Czech and EU diplomacy is working to resolve the case. Jan's case is also of interest to organizations CASLA Foundation, IACHR, ICRC (International Red Cross), UN, Amnesty International, Foro Penal and others

He was released on January 16 after nearly 500 days, and two days later landed in Prague on a government charter, where he was welcomed by his parents.
